Chia-Ding Shih
Professional Bio
Dr. Chia-Ding (JD) Shih is a double board certified podiatric surgeon and physician by the American Board of Podiatric Medicine and American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery. He is heavily involved in the American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA) as he served as the chair for the Public Health and Podiatric Preventive Medicine Committee at the national level. At the state level, he was the vice chair for the Public Health Committee of California Podiatric Medical Association in 2023-24.
He graduated with his B.S. in Microbiology and Nutritional Science from University of California, Davis in 2006. He received his Master of Arts (MA) in Medical Sciences from Boston University School of Medicine in 2009. Dr. Shih graduated from the California School of Podiatric Medicine (CSPM) at Samuel Merritt University in 2014 with honors before he completed a three-year surgical residency at the West Los Angeles VA/UCLA Olive View Medical Center. He was the 2017-18 Podiatric Public Health fellow of the APMA and obtained his Master of Public Health (MPH) at Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth College. He then went on to complete a second fellowship, Lawrence B. Harkless Limb Preservation at Keck School of Medicine of USC.
He was recognized by his colleagues at CSPM and received the Pierce B. Nelson, DPM Award for embodying the qualities of “a role model, a highly respected individual, a dedicated Podiatric Physician who was committed to providing quality comprehensive foot health care for his patients, and one who worked closely with the students.” Dr. Shih was the recipient of the Symposium on Advanced Wound Care (SAWC) Spring 2020 Wound Care Podiatrist Scholarship selected by the APMA. In the same year, he was recognized by the leaders and members of Foot and Ankle Health section of the American Public Health Association and received the John and Janet Carson Public Health Advocacy Award. He was nominated and selected to be the “Future Stars” in Podiatry Management in 2025.
Currently he holds a full time faculty position at Keck Medicine of USC as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Surgery and serves as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at CSPM at Samuel Merritt University where he follows his passion in teaching and commitment in research. Dr. Shih has had clinical experiences in multiple different practice settings including in a large private practice group as well as in Kaiser Walnut Creek Medical Center. These clinical experiences in addition to a number of his peer reviewed articles in various journals empower him to be an evidence-based and patient-centered provider. His goal is to ensure his patients stay mobile as mobility is the key to a good quality of life. When he finds time outside of his clinical, research and teaching duties he enjoys spending time with his family
